G. Ron Nichols is vice president-operations in the Mid-America Zone
for State Farm Insurance Companies. After being discharged from the
U.S. Army, he joined State Farm in 1971 in Murfreesboro. Ron was
named vice president-operations in Austin, TX in 1989 and assumed
this same position in Murfreesboro in 1998. A native of Tennessee
and a 1970 graduate of MTSU, Ron has earned the Chartered Property
Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and
Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations. He is past
chairman of the Texas Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Fund
and the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. From 1991 to 1998, he
represented State Farm and the Insurance Industry as a registered
lobbyist before the Texas Legislature and Texas Insurance
Commission. He is currently serving on the Boards of the Tennessee
Insurance Guaranty Association and Tennessee Life and Health
Guaranty Fund.
Active in the Murfreesboro community, he is vice chairman of the
Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Business
Education Partnership Executive Board. Ron is a board member of
Rutherford County Main Street and the Stones River Chapter of the
Sons of the America Revolution. He is a member of the City of
Murfreesboro Historic Zoning Commission.
Ron is a member of the MTSU Jennings A. Jones College of Business
Advisory Board, a member of the MTSU Foundation Board, and the Blue
Raider Athletic Association. He also served on the College of
Continuing Studies and Distance Learning Advisory Task Force and was
recently nominated to be designated as a 2003 Distinguished Alumnus.
He was instrumental in securing funding from the State Farm
Foundation for the establishment of a State Farm Scholarship in the
Martin Chair of Insurance at MTSU and the establishment of the State
Farm Faculty Development Fund in our College.
